The mix here includes screen prints, photography, & Photoshopped images. Sometimes I go from photo to a medium: For painting, I often reference photos photographs that are old and faded or cracked, and lacking in detail. By changing contrast and light/dark area, I gain an understanding of the scene. Other times I go from a medium to a photo: The “Manquette for Oil” started as a newspaper and tape manquette of a shape. The shape was placed in a cardboard box line with aluminum foil. The photo that I took was then manipulated in Photoshop to give the blue background, the lines of the inner box edges, and coloration of the shape. This formed the staring point for the painting “Portrait of Shape 2”.

Many of these images started as collages and have been re-worked into Photoshopped versions – a reversal of the process.
